The Walking Dead: Dead City Adjusts Its Premiere Plan On AMC

The Walking Dead: Dead City has adjusted the time it will premiere on AMC the night of Sunday, June 18. The spinoff of The Walking Dead will see Maggie and Negan from the flagship show travel to New York City. The two are on a mission to rescue Maggie's son Hershel from a mysterious new villain calling himself The Croat. Originally, the series was set to premiere on AMC on Sunday, June 18 at 10 p.m.

Now, AMC (via ComicBook.com) has announced The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere Sunday, June 18 at 9 p.m. on AMC. This means the show will air one hour earlier than originally planned. However, it's now unclear what time Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 6, will air, as June 18 at 9 p.m. was its original time slot.

What To Expect From The Walking Dead: Dead City

The Walking Dead: Dead City's earlier series premiere lines up with the rest of the season, which will air Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC. This means fans of The Walking Dead franchise can see the start of Maggie and Negan's Big Apple adventure earlier than expected, perhaps also getting early answers about what their future together holds. With Negan's connection to The Croat confirmed as having to do with the Saviors, The Walking Dead: Dead City is already promising much more than a straightforward rescue mission.

In addition to The Croat, Maggie and Negan will also run into Pearlie Armstrong, a survivor searching for Negan, seemingly at the behest of The Croat. However, Maggie and Negan won't be alone in their perils, as new survivors like Ginny and Jano will be assisting them in their journey, something Maggie actor Lauren Cohan teases could last through season 5.

Dead City will also serve as the introductory chapter to the Walking Dead universe after the end of the flagship series. Not only will it have to introduce Maggie and Negan's story, but it will also have to set the bar in terms of quality for upcoming Walking Dead spinoffs. Since The Walking Dead: Dead City carries plenty of potential for the next chapter of this franchise, it makes sense for it to premiere on AMC in an earlier time slot.
