5 Addams Family Characters We'd Like To See In Season 2 of "Wednesday" (And Who Should Play Them)!

With "Wednesday" being officially crowned Netflix’s most-viewed series on the streaming giant and Season 2 in the distant future, the options are endless in terms of where the writers will take the global smash comedy that was released in November of last year. With that said, there are all but a few original Addams Family IP characters that can (and should) make their reintroduction on "Wednesday", which would satisfy both new and old Addams fans alike…

1. Lily Tomlin as Grandmama

The character of Grandmama has been portrayed as both Gomez and Morticia’s mother throughout Addams Family history but made her very first appearance in the newspaper cartoon by Charles Addams. She has since been portrayed by Carol Kane inAddams Family Values and voiced by Bette Midler in the 2019 animated film. Beloved by Addams fans for her witchy and quirky persona, Grandmama would make a lighthearted addition to Season 2 of Wednesday – which is expected to be darker than the first – therefore comedy legend Lily Tomlin would make a great choice to take on the Addams Family matriarch.

2. Danny DeVito as Cousin Itt

Itt, Gomez Addams’s cousin, traditionally tends not to speak much – aside from occasional gibberish that only the family can understand – but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t play a crucial role throughout Addams Family history. Created for the 1964 television series, and most recently voiced by Snoop Dogg in the animated blockbusters, Cousin Itt could join the Netflix series with the help of Oscar and Emmy-nominated actor Danny Devito as another form of comic relief.

3. Jennifer Coolidge as Debbie Jellinsky

Though not a blood-related Addams Family member, Joan Cusackmade an indelible impression in the second live action-feature,Addams Family Values, as Debbie Jellinsky, the gold-digging and serial-killing wife of Fester Addams who sends Wednesday and Pugsley to sleepaway camp after they catch on to her cruel intentions. Though it would be hard to recreate the magic of the 1993 sequel, Jennifer Coolidge would make a bold addition to the series as a potentially new and reimagined version of Debbie.

4. Kate McKinnon as Cousin Melancholia

Morticia’s oft-forgotten and always-crying cousin, Melancholia, has only ever been featured in the television versions of "The Addams Family". Though her footprint on the Addams universe is small, her depressed personality would stand out as it would make Wednesday look like a happy camper. Perhaps the best way to reintroduce Cousin Melancholia would be by casting a comedic actor like "Saturday Night Live" alum Kate McKinnon.

5. Catherine Zeta-Jones as Ophelia Frump

Wednesday’s maternal aunt, Ophelia, is quite literally the opposite of Morticia thanks to her blonde hair and cheery personality, but ironically enough, the two are identical in appearance. As it played out in the original television series, Carolyn Jones, the actress who played Morticia, also portrayed Ophelia. However, in the '90s films, Anjelica Huston was not cast as Ophelia. Seeing Catherine Zeta-Jones take on both Morticia and Ophelia would likely be a more exciting choice for "Wednesday" fans.
