Death in Paradise creator announces new show with Doctor Who's Jo Martin

Death in Paradise creator Robert Thorogood is lining up a brand new mystery series starring Doctor Who's Jo Martin.

The author and writer will be adapting his own novel, The Marlow Murder Club, into a TV series set to air on the Drama channel and streamer UKTV Play next year, according to The Radio Times.

Samantha Bond — best known for playing Moneypenny in the Brosnan-era James Bond films — has the lead role in The Marlow Murder Club as retired archaeologist Judith Potts. Her quiet life in the idyllic town of Marlow is shattered when she thinks she hears gunshots in a neighbour's garden and assumes a murder has taken place.

When the police are reluctant to admit such a heinous crime took place in their town, Judith teams up with local dog-walker Suzie (Jo Martin) and the vicar's wife Becks (The Sandman's Cara Horgan) to prove to police that there is a killer in their midst.

"After over a decade of working on Death in Paradise, I’m thrilled to be creating a brand-new murder mystery series for TV," Thorogood said.

"I can’t wait for audiences to join Judith, Becks and Suzie on their adventures as they solve a series of fiendishly puzzling murders."The series will also feature The Capture and Sandylands' Natalie Dew as local investigator DS Tanika Malik, who leans on the evidence gathered by the three amateurs to find the killer.

Thorogood remains extremely busy as he continues to oversee Death in Paradise and spin-off Beyond Paradise — both of which were recently renewed for brand new seasons and Christmas specials.

Aside from his film work, Thorogood has also written several Death in Paradise spinoff books that have recently been packaged in a box set.
