Jack Crusher Already Has 3 Big Star Trek: Legacy Stories

After the conclusion of Star Trek: Picard season 3, Ensign Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) has three stories set up for Star Trek: Legacy. One of the biggest surprises in Picard season 3 was the reveal that Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Dr. Beverley Crusher (Gates McFadden) had a son.

Dr. Crusher decided not to tell Picard about Jack, but the events of Picard season 3 brought the three together. Jack became a crucial player in the Changeling/Borg plot to assimilate Starfleet, and it was his burgeoning relationship with his father, Picard, that helped Jack resist the Borg's influence.

end of Star Trek: Picard season 3, Jack Crusher joined Starfleet and was assigned to the new USS Enterprise-G. Under the command of the recently promoted Captain Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), this ship will likely serve as the setting for Star Trek: Legacy if the rumored show becomes a reality. As a young Starfleet officer with a compelling backstory, Jack Crusher's journey would be a fascinating one to follow. While several characters introduced in Picard have stories that could continue, Jack Crusher has three major stories to be explored in Star Trek: Legacy.

Jack Crusher’s 3 Big Star Trek: Legacy Stories

Several threads of Jack's story were introduced in Star Trek: Picard season 3 and remained unresolved by the series' conclusion. Throughout the series, Jack grew close with Lt. Sidney La Forge (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut), one of the daughters of Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton). Though their potential romantic feelings were teased, they never moved beyond flirtation. Further, in the final episode of Picard season 3, Jack was assigned as a Special Counselor to Captain Seven aboard the newly christened USS Enterprise-G. This seems to be a position created especially for him, and it is unclear what this position entails.

In the post-credits scene of Star Trek: Picard's final episode, Q (John de Lancie) made a surprise return. While Q acknowledged that Jean-Luc's trial on behalf of humanity was over, young Jack's trial has apparently just begun. Despite Q's supposed death in Picard season 2, he seems ready to become a thorn in the side of another member of the Picard family. As an omnipotent being who exists outside of time, there are many ways to explain Q's return to Star Trek, but the question of what, exactly, he wants with Jack Crusher remains unclear. This would be an excellent question to address in Star Trek: Legacy, as it could be a story arc that lasted over several episodes or even seasons.

Will Jack Crusher Be Star Trek: Legacy’s Main Character?

Star Trek Picard Jack Crusher

While Jack Crusher is not the only character whose story could continue in Star Trek: Legacy, the emphasis on Picard's son potentially sets Jack up as the spinoff's main character. He is already familiar to audiences, and Cruher has established relationships with many well-known Star Trek characters. Considering the show focuses on the legacy left by past characters, it would make sense to have Jack Crusher as a lead who lives in the shadows of those who came before him but also wants to make his own way.

As with most of the Star Trek shows, Legacy will likely have an ensemble cast that will potentially include Captain Seven of Nine, Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd), a resurrected Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick), and both Sidney and Alandra La Forge (Mica Burton) among others. Out of all the possible characters, Jack Crusher makes the most sense as a lead, or co-lead with Captain Seven of Nine. Not only does he represent the up-and-coming generation of Starfleet officers, but Jack also has an interesting history. Whatever direction Star Trek: Legacy decides to go, it will hopefully show the continuation of Jack Crusher's story that began in Star Trek: Picard.
