Venom Reveals His New Costume As Marvel's Most Badass Terminator

Warning: Contains spoilers for Venom #20Venom has revealed his new costume–and it makes him Marvel’s badass version of the Terminator. Since ascending to the role of King in Black, Eddie Brock has been largely absent from Earth, but in Venom #20, he finally returns with an awesome new look. And this new look, and how Eddie Brock obtained it, is highly reminiscent of one of The Terminator’s most iconic scenes.

The issue is written by Al Ewing, drawn by Cafu, colored by Frank D’Armata and lettered by Clayton Cowles. Eddie Brock, believed dead by the rest of the world, has returned to life; he is reborn completely naked–save a black Venom logo on his chest. Breaking free of the Absent Throne laboratory, Eddie finds a young man wearing a leather jacket at a police stop. After dispatching the police officer, Eddie asks the young man for his clothes and the motorcycle. The young man then quips, “You’re a Terminator.” The youth also has a can of spray paint with him, and Eddie uses it to create a Venom logo for the back of the jacket. Now, with clothes and a means of transportation, Eddie sets out for the small town of Baywater. He is intercepted by two cops, who tell him to turn around. Undaunted, Eddie attacks both of the cops, and sets off into Baywater, to track down Bedlam.

Venom's New Look is Bad to the Bone

Venom Terminator

The road to Venom becoming Marvel’s equivalent of the Terminator has been a long and winding one. After defeating Knull, Eddie became the new King in Black, intending to use the symbiote powers for good. This plan went awry thanks to the manipulations of Meridius, revealed to be a future King in Black. Furthermore, after entering the hellish dimension of Limbo, Eddie mutated into Bedlam, a brutish red symbiote. Bedlam was stabbed with the Soulsword, and Eddie’s soul was thrown to the afterlife, where he learned the true cosmic purposes of the King in Black–and was given a chance to return to Earth to save the life of his son Dylan.

Venom is Taking a Page Out of the Terminator's Playbook

Venom encounters one problem, however, upon his return: he is buck naked and has no way to find Bedlam. His solution is straight out of The Terminator’s iconic opening scene, in which Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator strolls into a dive bar and demands a patron give him his clothes and motorcycle. It leads to an instant brawl that lets viewers know that the Terminator is not here to mess around. While the young man willingly gives Eddie his clothing and motorcycle, the scene serves the same purpose: to showcase Venom’s newfound drive, the one that will end Bedlam and save Dylan’s life.

And when Eddie reaches Baywater, his take-no-prisoners attitude immediately leads to a confrontation with the gangs that have taken over the town thanks to Bedlam’s help. Eddie walks right through the gang, taking them out one by one, until he is finally face to face with Bedlam. Venom’s new lease on life will guarantee an explosive showdown between the two, as Eddie will be fighting for his son as well. Venom has a new, badass look inspired by the Terminator–and an attitude to match.
