Will Temuera Morrison return to Star Wars?

After the completion of The Book of Boba Fett, alongside a complete lack of Boba in The Mandalorian season 3, many have wondered if Temuera Morrison has a future in Star Wars. Other than a quick clone trooper cameo in the Kenobi series, Temura has been noticeably absent.

Is the future of Boba Fett in question? Will we see Temuera Morrison in another live-action Star Wars? Let’s see if we can find these answers together.

What about Boba?

When his titular series ended, many fans were dismayed at the course of Boba Fett’s story. Many felt that he was not the bounty hunter they grew up knowing and loving in legends stories and comics. They saw a kinder and gentler Boba, and that’s not the Boba they wanted after waiting 40 years for him to emerge from the Sarlaac pit.

On the one hand, you can empathize with that sentiment. We were teased with a Boba Fett who was a kick butt and take-names kind of guy in The Mandalorian season 2. Remember Boba getting his armor back and whooping up on Stormtroopers with a Jaffe stick? Yeah, so do I. It made us excited for what might be coming in Boba Fett’s own series.

We got the fist through the sand after the escape from the Sarlaac pit. We got some fights here and there. But, what many were not prepared for was bureaucratic Boba. He was more in the HR department than he was a daimyo. He was solving the village water crisis with words, not blasters. Employing the populace who were young and disillusioned. It was a far cry from what we saw in Mando …

On the other hand, what we also got was a lot of great backstory on Boba. Where he was, what he was doing, what he learned from the Sand People. In my opinion, the Tusken Raiders storylines were great and added a dimension to Boba that was needed. Because all we ever really had from Boba prior to this in live action was him in a few minutes of screen time standing menacingly or flying Slave 1. Sure, there’s obviously more to it than that, but not much. Boba was a major character in the fans’ minds who got little time on screen until his own series.

The Tusken story helped us to see what’s shaping the character of Boba. A man who grew up without a father since a tragic accident at a“Take your son to work on Geonosis” day. He learned the lesson of tribe and family. He saw the power of working together to solve a problem. And although these are great storylines, they weren’t enough for many fans.

So, where does that leave the character of Boba Fett? It’s unknown what the future holds for Boba, but it would be logical to assume that the only places we will see this character again in live action are a couple of scenes or episodes of The Mandalorian season 4, or if there is somehow a season 2 of The Book of Boba Fett.

If he does return, however, we need to see him return being a warrior, a fighter. That doesn’t mean we need him to forget the Tusken lessons. Those can inform his decisions, but he needs to be the bounty hunter we all know and love.

And, in the words of Temuera Morrison, “I think it’s time to get him back to his badass ways. No two ways around that.”

We agree, Temuera, we agree. For Boba to have a future in live action, he has to be a fighter, a badass bounty hunter, or he will be forgotten in the sands of Tatooine.

Will Temuera Morrison return as Boba Fett?

Temuera Morrison has been the face and voice of Jango Fett, Boba Fett and every clone we have heard and seen in live-action since the premiere of Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

But we are past the prequels and the clones were replaced by enlisted Stormtroopers. They were phased out, and as series like The Bad Batch has helped us to see, looked down upon by the Galactic Empire and no longer wanted. Many of the clones were either killed in action or simply forced out of duty.

Why bring this up? Because in canon we have very few clones that we know of that live past the rise of the Empire. We see a couple in Star Wars: Rebels, there was a cameo of an unnamed clone in Kenobi, and a silver-haired bearded fellow named Nik Sant that was retconned in theories to be Captain Rex at the Battle of Endor. Has Temuera ’s future with Star Wars Run dry?

Not at all! The places where he can appear wouldn’t be awesome and they should be done. There is a future for Temuera Morrison in Star Wars, albeit limited if he is to use his face without makeup or prosthetics. I say that simply because, again, he is the face and voice of every Clone since Boba.

But staying in the lane of the clones, the most obvious role for him to take is the role of Captain Rex. There is a rumor that we will see Temuera as Rex in the upcoming Ahsoka series. The timeline would make sense, considering this series runs parallel in time to The Mandalorian, which is placed not too long after the fall of the Galactic Empire. Keep in mind, according to the series finale of Star Wars: Rebels, Rex was there. That’s canon. And it would be amazing to see Rex and Ahsoka fighting side by side once again against a common enemy.

Outside of Rex and a small handful of other named clones, those opportunities would be limited. If, however, he was willing to wear makeup and prosthetics, the sky’s the limit for who Temuera can be in the Star Wars universe. It will take a bit more imagination, or we can keep bringing him back as the long-lost cousin of Jango Fett or that one clone from that one scene in the clone wars animated series, both are acceptable.

Honestly, whatever keeps Temuera as part of the Star Wars family and on screen. Just do it right. Give it a good story. Give the character some depth. All will be fine.

So will Temuera Morrison return to Star Wars? Yes, he will. We are all but guaranteed to see him in the upcoming Ahsoka series, and we will cross our fingers to see him return in season 4 of The Mandalorian as Boba Fett, showing off how much of a badass he can be.
