The Wheel of Time's First Sul'dam May Have Been Revealed

An actor cast in Season 2 of The Wheel of Time may have had her role revealed as one of the Seanchan women known as sul'dam. According to a report from The Wheel of Time fan show WoT Up!, actor Lily Banda's part in the Prime Video series has been updated with the name "Mulaen."

Although Mulaen is a minor character in the book series which the show is based on, her presence hints at some plot points that may come up in the long-awaited second season.

The Seanchan Arrive in The Wheel of Time Season 2

According to the Wheel of Time mythology, the Seanchan people have a much different attitude toward the One Power than the cultures which were introduced in Season 1. Women who can channel are enslaved as damane and kept under tight control by other women, such as Mulaen, called sul'dam. The Seanchan were teased at the very end of the Season 1 finale through a scene in warships arrive on the coast, and several damane can be seen using the One Power to cause a tidal wave. Banda, who has appeared in the Netflix film The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, does not match the age of Mulaen as described in the books, but this may be a case of two or more characters being combined in the adaptation. As there are many scenes in the second and third books of The Wheel of Time involving Seanchan, it's very likely that the name of Banda's role indicates she's one of these characters.

The Wheel of Time, based on the epic fantasy book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, premiered on Prime Video in 2021. Although Season 2 has completed filming, there has been no confirmation so far on when it will air. However, Season 3 has been greenlit and is in production now, with filming rumored to begin this month. Casting reports for some new roles have been surfacing, such as Rima Te Wiata as Sheriam Sedai of the Blue Ajah. The new additions will join an ensemble cast including Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Josha Stradowski and Madeleine Maddens. In the first season, five young villagers journey away from their home in search of answers about which of them is the Dragon Reborn, fated to either save or destroy the world.
