Everybody on Mute: Beyonce challenges fans to go silent. Can you do it, Phoenix?

Beyoncé is bringing her glittering Renaissance World Tour to metro Phoenix on Thursday, Aug. 24, for a concert at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

The Renaissance World Tour began in Europe, then took to Canada and the United States. It comes after the release of Beyoncé’s seventh studio album, “Renaissance,” on July 29, 2022. It marks Beyoncé’s first outing since the On the Run II Tour in 2018 with Jay-Z and her first solo tour since the one for “Lemonade” in 2016.

A show of the Renaissance Tour's magnitude comes with its fair share of outfits, surprise appearances and even some challenges.

One particular challenge has captured Beyoncé’s attention and that is the Everybody on Mute challenge. Let us break it down for you.

What is the Beyoncé mute challenge?

This challenge takes place at the point in Beyoncé’s concert when she performs “Energy” from the “Renaissance” album.

After saying the line, “Big wave in the room, the crowd gon' move / Look around everybody on mute.” Beyoncé and her dancers freeze, and she listens and waits for the whole stadium to go quiet.

The audience that can stay the quietest is declared the winner. The challenge seemingly started about a month into the tour with most of the crowd silent during the 16^th show in Amsterdam on June 16.

The trend grew from TikTok and is known as the Everybody on Mute War or Everybody on Mute Challenge. Beyoncé fans — the Beyhive — have discussed the moment of silence and told people what to do during the song. Some speak kindly; some not so much.
